Preliminary Task For my preliminary task, I produced a video with my partner Erkan which depicted a shady deal which saw the exchange of a duffle bag and a wallet. The video was filmed in school sixth form area using an SLT camera from the media department and a duffle bag and wallet for props. We decided to produce an opening sequence of this genre because we thought it would be a good way to gauge what could and couldn’t be done for our final project which we would aspire to make a thriller and depicting something along the lines of a shady deal with infusions of illegality would be bound to leave the audience in suspense and leave their minds wandering. Thrillers nowadays are pieces of content produced for the sole purpose of keeping the audience on the edge of their seats, something Erkan and I believe we could do well. I believe we met all the expectations and objectives we needed to, incorporating things like a conversation between two people and specific shot types and I believe we did this successfully as well as producing something we wanted to produce. There were multiple things in which we needed to consider. This comprised of filming, location, props and etc. In terms of filming it was required of use that we used the rule of thirds and adhered to the 180-degree rule. Shot reverse shots were also incorporated in order to show a conversation. As for location we were unable to broaden our horizons beyond the school site and because of this we decided to film in the sixth form area which was in hindsight a good decision as the location turned out to be perfect for our film genre. For props we had to decide what to use and eventually came to a decision to use a duffel bag and wallet to make the scene look as shady as possible while appearing professional, adding animosity as the contents of the bag were unknown. The feedback we got was that instead of including a window, we shouldn’t put anything that see outside or anything with a reflection as this can interfere with the rule of thirds or 180 degree rule. Another piece of feedback we got was in regard to framing and that poor framing can potentially ruin a piece. To improve this we would go over the film when actually shooting scenes and make sure there is enough space between the characters and scenes. If we had to do this again I think we would make some minor improvements such as using a tripod to improve framing and reconsidering the location. |
